USCC and CBC Foundation Launch Cannabis Internship Program

Leading Cannabis Companies and Organizations to Participate in Inaugural Program to Support Black Talent in Cannabis Industry

December 1, 2021

WASHINGTONToday, the U.S. Cannabis Council (USCC) announced a new internship program with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) to build pathways for Black talent in the rapidly growing cannabis industry. The Spring 2022 Pathways to the C-Suite internship program will partner Black college seniors and recent college graduates with leading cannabis companies and organizations, including ACHEM, Canopy, Columbia Care, Curaleaf, Holistic, Marijuana Policy Project, USCC and Weedmaps.

“Black Americans are woefully underrepresented in today’s cannabis industry,” said Donna Fisher-Lewis, Co-Interim President and CEO of CBCF. “We’re excited to partner with USCC and its members to help build a diverse talent pipeline for the cannabis industry.”

Internship participants will gain valuable career experience and have meaningful opportunities for networking and professional development. They will also learn about cannabis policy and business from industry insiders. A stipend and housing credit will be provided.

“The burden of cannabis prohibition has disproportionately fallen on Black Americans,” said Tahir Johnson, Director of Social Equity and Inclusion at USCC. “As an organization committed to creating an equitable and values-driven cannabis industry, we are incredibly excited to launch this new initiative with CBC Foundation to introduce smart and motivated college seniors and recent grads to the business of cannabis and nurture the next generation of industry leaders.”

“The Pathways to the C-Suite internship program will provide our members with top-notch talent while helping build a more equitable industry,” said Steven Hawkins, CEO of USCC. “Interns will gain valuable work experience in a dynamic, growing and evolving field. Their on-the job experience combined with the professional development provided by the internship program will set them up for success in cannabis and other professional paths.”

More information about the internship is available here. The deadline to apply is Friday, December 3rd at 11:59 pm ET.
