Statement on Delta-8

April 27, 2021

In recent months, we have seen the emergence and growth of a market for unregulated and untested products containing Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in retail outlets across the country. As these products have grown in popularity, significant questions have been raised about their safety. Delta-8 products often come to market through channels that are outside established state regulatory cannabis systems. Without sweeping federal legalization, the risk of illicit and potentially dangerous products continues to fester. We should end federal cannabis prohibition, take steps to curb these issues, promote safe practices and protect consumers from unknown iterations of untested cannabis products. We at the USCC call on elected officials to close these loopholes by descheduling and regulating all forms of THC as we continue on the path to legalization.
